Make bird feeders by covering pinecones with peanut butter, then rolling in
birdseed.
Make paper plate masks by cutting eye
holes. Then have the children decorate them with markers, paints, yarn, paper,
glitter, etc. to be any animal or creature they want.
Make brown bag masks by cutting eye
holes, and cutting out a place for each arm on the sides. Children can decorate
to be anything they want.
Make newspaper hats. Fold a section of
newspaper in half. Fold down each top corner to the middle, forming two
triangles. Roll and tape up along the bottom edges. Have the children decorate
them.
Have your children paint while
listening to different kinds of music.
Gather fresh leaves together. Have the
children paint one side, then print that side down on paper.
Homemade Face Paint
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon cold cream
1/2 teaspoon water
Food coloring
Mix the cornstarch and the cold cream together. Add the water and stir. Add the
food coloring one drop at a time until it is the shade you want. Do this for
each color that you want. Paint on the child's face with a small paintbrush.
Store in an airtight container.
Make a collage of Autumn leaves by
gluing them onto paper.
Put a piece of paper over leaves, rub
with a crayon held sideways for a leaf rubbing.
Put Autumn leaves between two pieces
of wax paper. Put this between brown bags. Have adult iron on a very low temp.
to melt wax paper together. Make a construction paper frame. Hang in a window.
Have the children sprinkle crayon

Have the children find interesting
rocks or shells. They can paint them and glue on glitter.
Go for a nature walk. Have each child
carry a brown lunch bag. Have them fill with interesting twigs, leaves, small
pinecones, etc. At home, glue onto heavy paper or cardboard for a collage.
Lay outside on a blanket and watch the
clouds. Look for shapes.
Put four toothpicks sticking halfway
out of the middle of a sweet potato. Set toothpicks in a jar with water so that
half of the potato is in the water. Put in a sunny window. Leaves and roots will
grow. Change the water from time to time.
Have the children plant grass seed in
a paper cup of potting soil. Put in a window sill and water frequently. Children
can draw pictures every few days to chart it's progress.
Put pocorn kernels (unpopped) in a
zipper top baggie with a moist paper towel. Close carefully. Tape to a sunny
window and the popcorn will grow.
Make macaroni necklaces. Wrap a piece
of tape around string or yarn. Have the children string on uncooked pasta. They
can paint the pasta with tempra paints. You can also color the macaroni before
stringing it. Put 3 Tablespoons of water and food coloring in a mayo jar. Put in
Macaroni. Take out with a slotted spoon, and dry it on newspaper.
Have the children paint their hands
and make handprints on paper.
Do circle dances such as the Hokey
Pokey, Ring around the Rosie, and Skip to My Lou.
Put a long paper on the floor.
Carefully have the children step in paint, then walk on paper while hollding a
grown-ups hand. At the end of the paper, have them wash their feet in a bucket
of water.
Have towels on hand. This makes it
look like they left their footprints in the sand on a beach.
Make stepping stones. Mix up cement
according to instructions on package. Get round plastic drip pans for plants.
Fill with cement. let dry a little bit. Have children put their hand print and
initials into the cement. Have them wash their hands right away. Let dry. Peel
stepping stone out of plastic, and put out into the garden.
